Kilt Measurement Tool

Record the key measurements a kilt hire supplier is likely to ask for, then check for common issues before you send an enquiry or attend a fitting.

This tool is a preparation aid, not a final fitting. Always let the hire supplier confirm sizes, stock, alterations and comfort before the event.

Your Measurements

Tip: measure while standing naturally. Keep the tape level and comfortable, and ask another person to help if possible.

Measurement FAQs

Why is natural waist different from trouser waist?

A traditional kilt normally sits higher than modern trousers, so the kilt waist measurement is usually taken around navel height.

What if I am between sizes?

Send the actual measurement and let the supplier decide. Hire stock, straps, alterations and comfort vary by outfit.

Should children and teenagers be measured early?

Yes, but ask the supplier whether a later re-check is needed if they are still growing.
